Motifs!
- Science and evolution: Stephen is very immersed in factual books and fictitious influence is not very common in his life. Growing up he had beliefs and thoughts forced on him, none of which he ever fully connected to, so through proven facts and knowledge, Stephen feels secure. This can be physically manifested through books, and also the order of things in Stephen’s home. Everything has its place although it’s weirdly chaotic. (Metaphorical representation of the idea that we can only try to have control over chaos).
- Religious elements: Around Stephen’s home there will be evidence of a religious influence in his life, but it will be in the means of a dusty bible, random little trinkets or half broken religious mini statues etc. He doesn’t care for it, but it’s there.
- Lucky charms/liquids/spells: It’s a metaphor for someone wanting to have control of the uncontrollable. Trying to mess with things that are a force in themselves but having it backfire, is a link to the religious things people cling to in order to be connected to something bigger than themselves.
- Broken photo frames etc.: Everything he has ever known and been able to understand is crumbling beneath him.
- Demonic signs: names on the wall in blood, flashing lights and technology that works by itself. This will be very stylised and almost melodramatic, but it will also be a good opportunity to get an external view of Stephen from the demons’ perspectives.
- Front door won’t open: Typical horror movie type of action. This will create panic and trap the audience in the insanity with Stephen.

Highest points of action
- Scene 5 when Stephen sees photos smashed up on the floor to then hear noises coming from upstairs. His mood changes from nervous to angry as he is frustrated at himself for feeling scared.
- How am I going to show this?
- The photo will be of his mother, who was a powerful but sometimes manipulative influence in his childhood. The fact that her photo among others, breaks, will illustrate that perhaps Stephen needs to acknowledge the past and realise that she didn't have all the answers. Everything he has ever known (or not known) is being shaken beneath his feet.

- Scene 7 when Stephen opens the garage and sees the horrific sight that sends him on a downward spiral into hysteria.

- This is something myself and my DOP have been discussing, and I have also talked with the writer. Collectively, we have come to the conclusion that using lighting, sound and specific camera angles will be the best way forward. Creating a whole image for Stephen to walk on would require using more actors, more props and the pressure of finding a particular room and then looking for the significance of each of these things. So, instead, we want to take advantage of the lights and lenses available to us and do a metaphorical externalisation of the paranoia, fear and confusion that Stephen feels internally. This will also be a good opportunity to play around with the sound and SFX,
